The Legion of Mary is an association of lay catholics. Its aim is the glorification of God through the self sanctification if its members. It may participate in any form of social service and apostolic work that the hierarchy may deem useful for the welfare of the Church. Senior membership is open to all catholics over 18 who faithfully practise their religion and are prepared to fulfill the duties which membership involves.
The main works of the senior Praesidium in Tullow which meets in the Brigidine Convent on Tuesdays, are running attached Praesidia, visitation of homes and dissemination of Catholic literature.
The 60 juniors active in the parish distribute Catholic papers to homes weekly. Senior members visit hospitals regularly and do chores for the elderly. Annual pilgrimages to Knock and Our Lady’s Island are organised.
