Today the Church recalls the Baptism of Jesus, an event which forms the basis for every Baptism over the last two thousand years including the Baptism of each one of us.
The Baptism of Jesus was a day of great significance. Our Gospel tells us that the Baptism took place in the presence of the Trinity.
The Father, who spoke from heaven saying “ this is my Son the beloved”,
The Son, Jesus who was Baptised in the River Jordan,
The Holy Spirit of God, who descended from the heavens like a dove.
The true and unique God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, shows Himself in Christ, through Him, with Him and in Him.
When we enter our Church we bless ourselves with Holy Water and say the words “In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”. We do this to remember our Baptism. The important day on which we became Christians.
